Flaring and venting of associated gas from oil production facilities is a major
source of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions globally. On latest estimates, 160 billion
cubic meters of gas is flared annually, resulting in around 300 million tonnes of
CO2 emissions. The Clean Development Mechanism rewards voluntary reductions of GHG
emissions from flaring. Our specialist Flaring Reduction team work with the resource
owners to identify appropriate development solutions for natural gas capture and
utilisation projects, in the process qualifying the projects for Carbon Credits
under the Clean Development Mechanism.
SCC's Flaring Reduction team seek to offer an integrated CDM project development
solution based on:
- Access to industry best practice in technology, operations and programme management
- Infrastructure development
- Access to appropriate technologies
- Access to funding
- Access to economic value from the associated gas
